Mondelēz International has opened its first sites in Bangladesh, paving the way for the confectionery giant to introduce products from its global portfolio to the country.
Mondelēz will be headquartered in Dhaka, and the move will give the company greater access to the country’s 160 million consumers.
The company began importing the Tang powered beverage to the country in 1995, and the product has become one of the largest brands in the country in this time.
Kallappa Pattanashetti, the former senior brand manager of Tang in India, has been appointed to lead the company’s Bangladeshi operations.
Pattanashetti said: “With our existing experience in Bangladesh, we see tremendous opportunity to bring in our much-loved products to this region and continue to grow here.
“We have inaugurated our corporate office in Dhaka, rolled out billing systems and are currently in the process of establishing a new warehouse.
“Over the next two years, our focus will be to invest in building our route-to-market and growing market share for our much-loved brands.”
The move represents the company’s latest foray into the Asian market further expands the company’s presence in the region.
Earlier this year, Mondelēz invested $90 million to open a new biscuit production facility in Bahrain, and the company also inaugurated a new R&D facility in Singapore in February.
